INDIA VS BANGLADESH- THOSE BITTER MEMORIES OF 2007
Mashrafe mortaza, the current captain of Bangladesh cricket
once accidently met Anil kumble in 2007 before the onset of 2007 world cup. A
friendly chat happened between the two of them.
Amidst there conversation, Anil kumble expressed his concern
to Mashrafe Mortaza saying, “ India is walking on a tight rope because between
world cup and India’s tour to Bangladesh, there ain’t any time, because
Bangladesh tour was to happen just after the world cup ended. Mashrafe Murtuza
took the statement as a huge insult to his country and his countrymen.
For him, The statement of Kumble was filled with Arrogance.
In an Interview, Mashrafe Mortaza revealed that Kumble’s statement made him
feel as if his team is being considered as a punching bag and Indian team could
easily reach the finals, as though it were a cakewalk. Mortaza caught the
unspoken words in those spoken lines, words that were wrapped in arrogance. Even though Kumble hadn’t said
anything as such but Mortaza decided to prove Kumble wrong and loosen the tight
rope for Indian team by defeating them in the world cup.
In 2007 world cup, Bangladesh defeated India by 7 wickets
and forcing India out of the world cup. Perhaps one of the worst performances of
India in a world cup, it has been 8 years since that defeat happened but every
time India faces Bangladesh in a world cup, the bitter memories of 2007
spontaneously resurge into the minds of every Indian. May be those memories
would have a lesser impact in future, if India defeats Bangladesh today in the
quarter finals.
Fingers crossed……we won’t give it back……
